Common concern with strength training… “I don’t want to get bulky!”
Let me reduce your concern. That is a very unlikely outcome!
“Bulk” or an increase in muscle SIZE, does NOT COME EASILY. I applaud the women who have trained hard enough to have big muscles 👏 – but they are the minority!
If you are building enough muscle mass that you’re bulking up – it’s because you’re following a hypertrophy program, which is a very specific and detailed program designed to increase the size of your muscles. Or… at least you are lifting very heavy weights at high reps.
HEADS UP 🔔 my program isn’t hypertrophy training. It’s a combination of strength, cardio, and mobility training. Several classes a week will use weights, and several will not.
If you are just starting to lift weights… some things that you CAN expect are:
💪 Connective tissue adaptations (aka stronger tendons & ligaments)
💪 Better mood
💪 Improved immune response
💪 Improved cognitive function
💪 Reduced injury risk
💪 Bone density changes
💪 Healthy life expectancy increase
More likely what will happen if you follow my program is “toned” muscles. Of course these are non-specific industry words – “bulk” and “tone”.
Tone just means muscle definition. This happens with a combination of reduction in body fat and an increase in muscle firmness.
It doesn’t matter to me if you want (or want to avoid) getting bulky or toned… your goals are 100% your own.
I’m just trying to clear up the misconception that lifting dumbbells a few times a week will make you bulk up. It’s just not gonna happen!
